The deer harvest from opening weekend was down 22 percent from last year, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation.

MDC reports 69,614 deer were checked. Resource scientist Jason Sumners said Saturday's warm, windy weather restricted deer movement, while Sunday's wind and rain likely kept hunters inside or beside campfires.

Sumners says that, despite the difficulties of opening weekend, that this season's deer harvest will be good.
