The death of an 18-month-old boy has prompted an investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities learned just before 9 a.m. Sunday that a family was taking the child, who was unresponsive, to Moberly Regional Medical Center. By the time officers arrived, Jayden Bradds had been pronounced dead.

Authorities arrested 23-year-old Joe Laswell, an acquaintance of Jayden's mother, for second degree domestic assault and child abuse Sunday afternoon. Additional charges are pending.

Laswell was taken to the Randolph County Jail and kept on a 24-hour hold. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday in Boone County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control was called in to assist with the investigation, which is ongoing.
