A group of local activists for low-income people want members of congress to end the Bush tax cuts for the top 2% of American taxpayers.

Members of Grass Roots Organizing, or GRO, performed a play in Columbia this afternoon to launch their “Who Pays?” campaign.

The across the board budget cuts are called “sequestration”.

Opponents of these tax cuts for the wealthy said they would result in the loss of more than 2 million American jobs and cut vital government services for working people.

Grass Roots Organizing spokeswoman Robin Acree said, “We thought that one way to talk about it was to have a little fun with it.  There’s no fun for the 374 head start workers that are going to be losing their jobs if these happen.  This is not going to be fun for the over $200 million of economic recovery that comes to our state.”

GRO’s demonstration in Columbia was one of dozens of actions organized nationwide by the Americans for Tax Fairness campaign partners as we approach tomorrow’s start of the lame duck session of congress.
