He also admitted to the attempted robbery of a Tuscumbia bank
A Tuscumbia man pleaded guilty Wednesday to the armed robbery of an Iberia bank. He also admitted to the attempted robbery of a Tuscumbia bank.
David Krzysik entered First State Bank on March 15 at 11:15 a.m. wearing a disguise. He had on a black wig, black costume beard, red baseball cap and gloves, plus jeans, sunglasses and a jacket. When he approached the teller, he put a black revolver on the counter and said, "This is real. I want your money. I don't want to hurt anybody."
He then put a black duffel bag on the counter, into which the teller emptied her money drawer. Krzysik went to another teller, who also put money into the bag. Krzysik then left the bank, taking $3,651.
Just 30 minutes later, he went to Central Trust Bank. But when he tried to open the front door, he discovered it was locked. Bank employees had seen him approaching – wearing the wig, beard and sunglasses – and locked the door.
Krzysik went back to his car, put the duffel bag in the trunk and left the area.
Police officers responding to a 911 call by bank employees arrived and tried to stop Krzysik, who was driving in circles around the town square. He drove off the road onto a small trail that led to a wooded area, and then down an embankment before he stopped and was arrested.
Krzysik pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery and one count of carrying a firearm in relation to a crime of violence.
Under federal statutes, Krzysik is subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years in federal prison without parole, up to a sentence of life in federal prison without parole. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Lynn. It was investigated by the FBI, the Miller County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
