JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – An incident in which a student brought a weapon to a Jefferson City elementary school has resulted in disciplinary actions.
School district officials say the case involved a fifth-grade girl who brought a pellet gun to Pioneer Trail Elementary on Friday.
One account indicates the girl pointed the weapon at another student.
On Monday afternoon, the district sent out letters and issued an automatic phone call to pioneer trail parents, alerting them of the situation.
"Most importantly, we're having conversations with our staff and our students, to let the students know in particular that if something's going on and they don't feel comfortable, or they have a concern, they need to talk to their teachers. And we want our parents to know the same thing," said David Luther of Jefferson City Public Schools.
Luther refused to say what disciplinary action was taken.
Officials said that they understand that some people, particularly parents, may be upset, and they encourage them to call the school with any questions.
