We've all had to deal with noisy neighbors from time to time.
But the people in one Jefferson City neighborhood say the noise coming from a adjacent business is driving them crazy.
"They're not responsible neighbors, and we want responsible neighbors," said Michael Brownstein.
Brownstein says that the Prison Brews, a favorite of many residents and visitors of Jefferson City, has bands play outside on the patio, close to his home.
"A lot of people are very agitated by noise because it's not music anymore.” said, Brownstein. “It's bouncing off of walls, bouncing through buildings and going through the alley, and it gets to be very noise-oriented, not music-oriented"
Brownstein says he's opposed to the proposed noise ordinance because he says it leaves many questions unanswered, such as where the noise levels are being measured from.
But others in the community, including a local musician who's played at prison brews, support the ordinance because they say it establishes clear cut guidelines for noise levels throughout the city.
"I think what they need to do is that if they had some more rigid standards, it would be very cut and clear on what a violation is," said musician Stan Idel.
Either way, it looks like people on both sides of the issue will have to wait for a resolution until next meeting, as the ordinance was tabled Monday night.
We talked with a manager at Prison Brews who tells us they will see how the issue plays out, but did not tell us if they support it or not.
The ordinance aims to establish certain decibel levels that will have to be observed by area businesses after certain times.
