Columbia city officials have filed charges against a strip mall owner after issuing six notices ordering the demolition and cleanup of an April Fool's Day fire.

The charges were filed last month against property owner Mark Stevenson who owns the destroyed strip mall on Business Loop 70.

Stevenson said he needs more time for the clean-up process because of complications with state government agencies and insurance providers.

Stevenson wants to avoid putting the debris in the Columbia landfill and is trying to recycle, salvage and donate as much of the materials as possible.

Stevenson faces a fine of up to $500 or three days in jail for each of his six charges.

Stevenson requested a jury trial that is scheduled for November 15.
