The forum was focused on job growth, university funding, and expanding services at Columbia Regional Airport.
The difference between candidates was clear when it came down to accomplishing those goals.
House district 47 candidates John Wright and Mitch Richards both talked about creating jobs and boosting the local economy.
Wright wants to take advantage of federal government money and said he would never say no to Washington funding that could help Mid-Missouri.
Richards fired back saying that Washington is broke! He says taking their money just encourages the federal government to raise taxes and redistribute your hard earned tax dollars.
Those in the audience say they like the candidate forum because it's more than just a 30 second commercial, Liz Schmidt said, "People should come and hear this, I believe in looking at the candidates and hearing what they have to say. It's much more important, and easier than reading about it and certainly much better than the commercials."
Candidates spent the afternoon talking about their top issues, Stephen Webber(D), House Dist 46 said, "I think my top issue is investment in people, do we believe in ourselves enough to invest in education? Investing in the University and investing in things that will lead to job creation."
Candidate Fred Berry (R), House Dist 46 said, "The most important issue is jobs, getting people back to work. A lot of things we're struggling with right now in terms of the budget will be solved once we get people back to work."
Webber thinks getting everyone the right education is the way to jump-start the economy while berry, said a more business friendly environment will lure employers back to the state.
