Racers were all ready to go in Columbia this morning, and they were embarking on a 5K route that raised money for a good cause.

The third annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure kicked off at 8:30 Sunday morning.

The sea of pink started off at the Mizzou sports park on Mick Deaver Memorial Drive, and winded around downtown Columbia before they finished the race at Memorial Stadium.

One group of racers 52 team members strong were participating in this year's Race for the Cure in memory of Ann Stapleton, who passed away from breast cancer two years ago, also was a nurse practitioner at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center.

They say they're not doing it only for Ann, but everyone who is fighting the deadly disease now.

"It is such a uplifting, fulfilling time,” said Rachel Mallett, captain of Team Ann. “That we can give back and support Komen, breast cancer survivors, and those that are still fighting."

In addition to the race, there was also several tents including one for breast cancer survivors, a Kids for the Cure tent, and a Pink Ribbon cafe, which is for participants who raised more than $300 fighting for the cure.
