Remains found in Maries County

Updated, September 17 @ 3:15 p.m.:

 Maries County Sheriff’s Office investigators attended the autopsy of human remains found on Saturday. The deceased man has been positively identified as 35-year-old Brian L. McCance of Dixon. 

Foul play was not detected. The cause of death is still undetermined pending toxicology results.

Saturday, the Maries County Sheriff’s Office responded to an area on Highway 28 west near State Route E
 in referenced to a deceased male subject near a wooded area.

It was apparent that the male subject had been in the outdoor area for several days.

The cause of death is still undetermined, and it is unknown if foul play was involved.

The Sheriff’s Office believes they have identified the male subject; however, the name is not being released at this time pending further investigation.

The remains were taken to the Boone County Medical Examiner's Office and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
