Claire McCaskill was on the m-u campus today to speak with students about her plan to help them pay back students loans.
She said helping everyone have the same educational opportunities was a major priority for her campaign, as was finding ways to help pay for those student loans after graduation.
The senator also took time to answer questions from the student crowd... including why she's not attending the democratic national convention this week.
"I'm here doing what I need to be doing.” said McCaskill. “It's 60-something days from the election, and I'm going to be traveling the state, and talking to voters this week, instead of hanging out with donors and lobbyists."
A representative for McCaskill's November opponent, Todd Akin, says he does not agree with the Democrat's generalized approach to student loans.
Akin thinks private lenders should have the opportunity to compete for student loans.
