Some hopeful entrepreneurs got a little help from some Jefferson City community leaders.

A group called “Start Up Jefferson City” held a “Perfect Your Pitch” session at the Capital Event Center.

People wanting to start their own business had exactly 10 minutes to pitch their ideas to prospective investors.

Event organizers said the time is right to start a new business, despite the struggling economy.

Event co-organizer Darla Porter said, “It’s no secret the Transformation Proposal didn’t pass.  People were asked if they wanted to pay taxes to help do that.  We’re doing it strictly through grassroots organization.  We have entrepreneurs, business owners, people who work in the banks and other areas who are here to help people realize their dream.”

Porter said each new Jefferson City business brings an average of 4 new jobs to the Capital City.
