Columbia police continue to look for a suspect who attacked a woman, 19, with a knife.

The crime took place about 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night while the woman was walking along Broadway near the Columbia Cemetery.

Columbia police said they are not seeing an unusual amount of crime throughout the city this summer.

However, 2 sets of special patrols are keeping a close watch on areas near Douglass Park and the Auburn Hills Subdivision.

Officers are responding to an increasing amount of gunfire and theft.

Columbia police officer Latisha Stroer said, “In the northern part of town, we are seeing a lot of thefts from motor vehicles and burglaries on that end.  In Douglass Park, we’ve had a lot of disturbances and shots fired around the Douglass Park area.”

In the case of Tuesday night’s stabbing, police are looking for a white male in his mid-30’s.  The suspect has blond hair with multiple tattoos and piercings.

If you have any information, you are urged to call Columbia CrimeStoppers at 573-875-TIPS.
