Hallsville voters will decide on a $4.3 million bond issue on Tuesday’s ballot.
Proposition 2 would pay for construction and building improvements in the Hallsville School District.
The proposal calls for a second grade wing and gymnasium at the district’s primary school worth $1.4 million.
Proposition 2 would also cover the $2.4 million cost of new high school classrooms and labs, secondary fine arts classrooms, a strength and conditioning room and a new auditorium.
If voters approve the 32-cent tax increase, the owner of a home worth $150,000 would pay an extra $91.20 a year in property taxes.
School Superintendent John Robertson said, “It increases the value of property. This school district is growing. Our student body is growing and so are those needs. It’s an investment in the community and an investment in their children and their future.”
Hallsville voters like Georgia Anthony think Proposition 2 is a bad idea.
Anthony said, “It’s been too poorly planned. We’re not going to have enough parking spaces. I found a lot of times that they don’t use it for what we voted for. I will vote no.”
Hallsville voters narrowly rejected a proposal identical to Proposition 2 on this year’s April ballot.
Right now, Hallsville has the lowest school taxes in Boone County.
