On Friday at 9:09 p.m. in the area of W. Main St. and Dix Rd., a Jefferson City Police Officer attempted to make contact with the driver of a vehicle that had been reported as operating careless and recklessly.
As the officer got out of his marked patrol vehicle to make contact with the driver of that vehicle, the vehicle then pulled away from the area and a vehicle pursuit ensued.
The fleeing driver traveled eastbound on Main Street and eventually onto northbound US 54.
The suspect vehicle exited at the Route W exit ramp and turned towards the Jefferson City Municipal Airport.
The fleeing vehicle attempted to drive through a chain link fence at the airport but was unsuccessful and subsequently taken into custody at that time.
The driver of the fleeing vehicle was identified as Charlie Walters; a 34 year old California, MO resident. Walters is charged with Driving While Revoked (Felony), Driving While Intoxicated, Resisting Arrest by fleeing (Felony), Leaving the Scene of an Accident (2 counts), Careless and Imprudent Driving, and Property Destruction.
He also had 2 outstanding Parole Violation Warrants at the time of his arrest; 1 Cole County Warrant and 1 Callaway County Warrant.
Walters is currently being held in the Cole County Jail.
