Two children are dead and six other people are injured after a two-car crash in southeast Missouri.

The Dunklin Daily Democrat reports 28-year-old Jamie Vires of Portageville was driving west on Missouri Highway 153 Friday morning when she veered into the path of a vehicle driven by 37-year-old Brandi Palmer of Rector, Ark.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says two passengers in Vires' car, 9-year-old Brittlyn Scott and 6-year-old Brooklyn Scott of Portageville, were killed in the crash.

Vires and a 1-year-old girl were taken by helicopter to a hospital with serious injuries.

Palmer and her three passengers suffered minor injuries but refused treatment.
