Automated License Plate Reader recognized the stolen car he was driving

An Illinois man wanted by numerous law enforcement agencies was arrested Wednesday evening by Boone County sheriff’s deputies while driving a vehicle reported stolen from Iowa City, Iowa.

Gordon Caldwell, 45, of Madison, Ill., was taken into custody at the Highway 63 connector shortly before 7 p.m. driving a silver 2012 Ford Explorer. Deputies were alerted to the stolen vehicle, which was traveling west on I-70 near the Lake of the Woods exit, by the Automated License Plate Reader utilized by the sheriff’s department.

Caldwell is being held in the Boone County Jail on $113,000 bond. He had outstanding warrants from St. Charles and Jefferson counties as well as several jurisdictions in the Illinois Metro East area of St. Louis.

A female traveling with Caldwell was also taken into custody. 47-year-old Rosalind Grant-Stennis of East St. Louis, Ill., was released after posting a $500 bond on suspicion of tampering.
