(AP) -- CARTHAGE, Mo. (AP) -- A Cartage woman has pleaded guilty to federal charges stemming from allegations that she illegally distributed prescription drugs.
Federal prosecutors say Tammy L. Neil, 42, of Carthage, pleaded guilty Wednesday, admitting that she was involved in illegally distributing a drug called phentermine from 2005 to 2008.
Neil and her former husband, Dr. John Freitas, owned and operated a clinic in Carthage that included a weight loss clinic where patients were given phentermine, an amphetamine-based controlled substance. Freitas has since died.
Prosecutors said in a release Wednesday that Neil, a licensed counselor, was not authorized to prescribe or dispense any controlled substance, including phentermine. Under the plea agreement, Neil also has to forfeit about $200,000 and property.
Sentencing has not been scheduled.
