It’s been going on since the 1960’s and it happened again on Saturday.

Dozens of families went to the Jefferson City Fire Department’s Fire Training Facility for this year’s Safety on Wheels program.

Members of the Jefferson City Optimist Club joined forces with the Jefferson City Fire Department to help kids stay safe on the road.

Children learned a few lessons on a bicycle safety skills course.

Instructors taught safety rules for bicycles and bicycle equipment.

Firefighters conducted child passenger seat safety inspections.

JC Optimist Club Secretary Libby Shull said, “All of our projects are focused on kids’ events.  We do quite a few things.  We feel like the safety on wheels program is not only a fun thing, but its good information and good training to teach these kids how to ride safely.”

Volunteers gave away free helmets to the first 150 participants.

Winners of drawings won free bikes.
