Todd Nicely and Tyler Huffman on the plane as they arrived in New York City on Tuesday
Two Missouri men are among a group of young, wounded war veterans in New York City celebrating this 4th of July Holiday.
14 men, including 4 quadruple-amputees and 6 triple-amputees from several branches of the military, are together on the patriotic holiday to celebrate their hard-won freedom.
Tyler Huffman, of Jefferson City, and Todd Nicely, of St. Louis, are two of the veterans on the trip.
Wednesday morning the group visited Ground Zero. Wednesday night the group will watch the fireworks on the USS Intrepid.
The trip is paid for through the The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. That’s the same group building Huffman’s “smart home” in Jefferson City.
The foundation also paid for retired Cpl. Todd Nicely’s Lake of the Ozarks home. He got the keys to that new “smart home” June 28.
The group has partnered with the Gary Sinise Foundation to raise money to build these smart homes for injured veterans. On July 27th, Gary Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band will perform at Apple Creek Farms in Centertown to raise money for Huffman’s home.
