(AP) -- KIRKSVILLE, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon is preparing to sign legislation intended to help more military veterans receive on-the-job training for private-sector employment.

Nixon scheduled a signing ceremony Monday at a storage company in Kirksville that has recently hired veterans. One of the company's owners is a soldier who is currently deployed.

The legislation is designed to expand Missouri's existing Show-Me Heroes program, a 2010 initiative to increase job opportunities for veterans. Lawmakers who backed the measure said it would tap into federal money to offset part of the job training costs.
