If you were exhausted walking outside in the heat on Saturday, just think of what it would be like paddling a kayak down the Missouri River.

Well, some folks were brave enough to do just that.

Starting at nine this morning, the third annual 'Race to the Dome' kicked off in at the Hartsburg and Providence river access points.

Paddlers had to travel about sixteen miles down the Missouri River from Hartsburg to Jefferson City.

The trip was about twenty-seven miles for those who started in Providence.

KRCG 13 caught up with the winners in both races, who just happened to be husband and wife.

"Awesome day, couldn't ask for better. Met so many nice people, and I think they're all in it to have fun like we are. 'And this is our first time we paddled through the Race of the Dome so...' 'We'll do it again next year' 'It's a nice charity event," said Joe and Marie Baisa, the winners of both the Providence and Hartsburg races, respectively.

As Joe mentioned, 'Race to the Dome' was a charity event, which raised five-thousand-dollars for Missouri River Relief, an organization dedicated to cleaning up Missouri's Riverways.
