It's been anything but an easy start to the summer for members of the Southern Boone School District.
And admist serious accusations of bias and corruption made by the district's former assistant superintendent, now they lose two more key figures in the Ashland educational community.
"Bridget Canaday resigned from the board, so we were accepting her resignation along with a resignation that came through with one of our principals, a middle school principal here at Southern Boone,” said Jesse Richardson, a school board member.
Bridget Canaday told us that her resignation had nothing to do with the accusations made by Carolyn Deffenbaugh, and everything to do with threats and vandalism aimed at her and her family.
Middle school Prinicipal Robert Simpson quit after allegations of favortism by Charlotte Miller.
The meeting held Monday morning accepted both their resignations, and started the ball rolling on an outside investigation team to look into Deffenbaugh's accusations.
"Our focus and our goal outside the investigation is to start 2012-2013 school year in the best way that we can, and try to focus on our kids, in getting them the best education that we will continue to provide to them," said Ellen Kesterson, the new Southern Boone school board president, in light of Canaday stepping down.
Many dedicated community members, like Louise Martin, are standing by their district, regardless of any accusation.
"I am concerned for the community, and for the school, for the children, and just anxious that this be resolved, so we all can heal and move forward."
