The investigation into the cause of the fire at 1221 East Walnut, Brookside Apartments, continues.

Currently the cause of the fire, which happened early on May 27, remains undetermined. The investigation is active and will continue for an unknown period of time.

Scene examination and dozens of interviews have taken place since the fire.

Because of the large dollar loss, and enormity of the number of interviews and scene examination, Columbia Fire Investigators have consulted with Columbia Police detectives, the State Fire Marshal's Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.

Additional interviews will take place in the coming week as well as follow-ups on leads provided by various sources. If anyone has any information, photos or video which they have not shared with investigators, contact the Columbia Fire Department. The Fire Marshal's Division may be contacted at 573-874-7556. The public may also call Crime Stoppers at 573-875-TIPS.
