One man is dead and a woman in the ICU after an accident Wednesday night in Mexico.

Around 7:40 p.m., Mexico Public Safety and Audrain Ambulance District personnel responded the crash at Highway 22 and Curtis Street.

Officers said a motorcycle, operated by 48-year-old Michael Woodruff and carrying 41-year-old Kimberly Holmes, hit the rear of a pick-up truck, driven by 52-year-old Harold Welschmeyer.

Officers said the truck was slowing attempting to turn left onto Curtis Street when the motorcycle struck the rear of the truck. The motorcycle caught fire after the collision, but was quickly extinguished by MPSD.

Woodruff was dead upon arrival of emergency responders. Holmes was flown from the scene to University Hospital, where she remains in their intensive care unit. Welschmeyer was not injured.

Witnesses said Woodruff’s motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed, along with another motorcycle, prior to arriving in Mexico. The crash remains under investigation.

Traffic on Highway 22 Wednesday night was slowed to one lane for about two hours.
