Columbia emergency management director position cut.
Questions remain over why Columbia's emergency management director was told Wednesday that her job is being cut for budgetary reasons.
But sources tell KRCG, longtime city employee and former Columbia Police Captain Zim Schwartze was put on administrative leave. No word from city leaders on how long she will remain on the payroll or what lead to the change.
Schwartze moved from the police department to emergency management in 2009. She started with the police department in 1991 and rose though the ranks to captain.
The city's website still lists Schwartze as the department's director.
In addition to overseeing the 24 hour 9-1-1 joint communications center, the agency helps prepare for and coordinate responses to natural and man-made disasters such as storms, floods and other events.
