COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Rainbow Softball Center has long been the place to come for those who love softball.
But, it has needed some work for a long time coming.
"This field is just about 30 years old, this sports complex is, and it hasn't had a single coat of paint added since then, so we're really helping to refurbish that”, said Nick Holman, a Marine Corps veteran, and the Project Manager for the Summer Service Slam with 'The Mission Continues'.
One of the things that 'The Mission Continues' does is we empower veterans to serve again in their communities, and run service projects, like the one here today at Rainbow Softball Center," said Mallory Rusch, spokeswoman for The Mission Continues.
The non-for-profit aims to empower wounded and disabled veterans coming back from overseas and give them a new sense of comrade re.
"Just the sense of incredible leadership that these guys have, like it's a drive. They come out, there's a mission, there's a goal, they're excited about it," Rusch said.
"We're not taxes on society, we actually have a great skill set that we can benefit our society, so it's a huge thing for veterans to come out and be able to use the skill sets that they acquired in their time in the military to benefit their communities," said Holman.
To that end, Holman says call them anything but a charity.
"As the Mission Continues says 'it's not a charity, it's a challenge”
