Several rural post offices that once faced closure could be saved by a bill sponsored by Missouri senator Claire McCaskill.
Earlier today, the U.S Senate gave final approval to the U.S. Postal Service reformation bill. The bill could not only save rural post offices slated for closure, but reform employee benefits and keep six day a week mail service.
However, Senator McCaskill says there are certain criteria that post offices must meet.
"A rural post office will not be allowed to be closed if there's not another post office within 10 miles. Secondly, what kind of impact would closing the post office have on the ability of seniors to get their medicine, or on the ability of small businesses to have package service, in terms of receiving and delivering what they need for their small business," said Senator McCaskill.
McCaskill says she has worked extensively with several republicans to get the bill passed through the senate, and she is calling for the house to pass it as well.
