Alexia Johnston is a lively, observant 10-year-old, and recently she's noticed something missing at her school.
"At my school, there are kids, like in the winter, wearing flip-flops, and wearing a tons of [torn] up shoes,” said Alexia.
So, for her upcoming 11th birthday, she is asking for something quite unique to help out her classmates.
"Well, since I saw that, I thought I could help by giving shoes”
It's called 'Help Step Things Up', and Alexia's goal is to collect as many new or gently worn tennis shoes as she can before next school year.
"It's the very first time that we've had a student wanting to pay it forward to other kids, and we're very, very excitedm and very pround of her for wanting to do something like this for other students," said Denise Harwood, Eldon Upper Elementary Principal.
All the shoes collected will be handed out by the school nurse to any student who needs them.
There are shoe collection bins at the following places in Eldon: Walmart, Llyod Belt Automotive, Eldon Advertiser, and Handy Jon.
