It's only the end of m\March, but it already feels like summer, which means more people than usual are headed to the lake for the weekend.

That also means there are more people looking for valuable items to steal.

The Osage Beach Police Department says it goes without question: once the lake season starts up, there are more reports of jewelery and other expensive items missing.

Sergeant Arlyne Page with the Osage Beach police departments says she hears of it too often.

"If you're going to wear a lot of jewelery, we ask you not to take it to a hotel or what not. Leave it at home," said Sgt. Page.

Page also says boating and fishing equipment are hot items for thieves, so be sure to lock up those things in a secure place.

Osage beach police also strongly urge lake-goers to attend to children and pets while on water. They remind parents that leaving children unattended for a period of time can lead to charges of neglect.
