SOUTHERN BOONE COUNTY, MO. -- Southern Boone County Firefighters are asking voters to pass a $2 million bond issue on the April 3 ballot.
The proposal would be an extension of an expiring bond issue that funds the Southern Boone County Fire Protection District.
If passed, fire officials would replace a 20-year-old fire truck, add more bedrooms to their Ashland fire station and buy some surplus MoDOT property for additional training.
Supporters said the proposed bond issue would be a decrease in property taxes compared to what it has been over the past 10 years.
Southern Boone County Fire Protection District Board Member Jim Saylor said, “Our last bond issue was done in 2003. We’ve actually paid it off a year early. The last payment is going to be this year. We’re trying to extend that.”
If approved, the cost of emergency fire, rescue and medical services would be about $75 a year for someone owning a home worth $100,000.
That compares to $77 for the expiring bond issue.
