SPRINGFIELD -- Firefighters say someone set fire to a house belonging to a man charged in a Springfield woman's murder.

The mobile home of Jay Rothe was destroyed by fire on Monday. The home he shared with a son was located just outside of Springfield. No one was home at the time of the fire, which killed several animals.

Rothe has been jailed since Sunday, charged with killing Linda Riley at Rothe's home during an argument.

Riley disappeared from her Springfield home on Feb. 27.

Springfield police say Rothe told them Riley died after accidentally hitting her head while they were arguing. Court documents say he admitted burning Riley's body at Stockton Lake.

KY3-TV reports the Greene County Sheriff's Department said investigators determined the fire was arson.
