High winds and low humidity prompted the National Weather Service to issue a red flag warning Sunday.

Local firefighters worry about bar-b-ques and brush fires getting out of control when these conditions move through the area.

The Jefferson City Fire Departments Jason Turner said, it's always better to be safe than sorry, "What little precipitation moisture that we've gotten over the last couple of months the fire conditions are just at a high prime right now. I’d encourage any resident right now not to burn. Make sure we wait until the wind is down that we don't have these gusts like we have today and wait for the humidity to rise a little bit. This morning bright and early we had humidity levels already at 50 percent so I mean we were already plummeting this morning with humidity".
