JEFFERSON CITY -- Friday night teachers and police officers were drying off after spending some time in the dunk tank at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.

The school finished up a three week long fundraiser Friday called Pennies for Patients by letting students get the chance to dunk their favorite teacher, principal or officer.

Students could donate $2 for 3-throws or $5 to just walk up and press the button.

All of the money raised will benefit a sixth grade boy at the school with leukemia and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Students said they're proud what their school has done to help.

"We have compassion and that we really want to help people,” 7th grade ambassador Emily Wilkerson said. “I think it also helped that we had somebody in the sixth grade that actually has leukemia and so people just realized that it was really important to give money to this to help somebody that we know."

So far students and staff have raised more than $1,000.
