Earthquake hits near Sikeston, Missouri

Updated Tuesday, Feb. 21st at 8:05 a.m.:

Residents in four states have reported feeling a magnitude 4.0 earthquake that was centered in southeast Missouri.

WSIU Radio in Carbondale reports that the ground shook just before 4 a.m. Tuesday. The quake was centered about 5 miles from East Prairie, Mo. That's about 16 miles from Cairo, Ill., close to where Interstates 55 and 57 converge.

The U.S. Geological Survey says residents in Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee and Kentucky have reported feeling the quake.

There are no reports of significant damage.

Early Tuesday morning an earthquake struck Southeastern Missouri.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck just before 4 o'clock Tuesday morning.

The earthquake hit about 11 miles east of Sikeston, about 186 miles south-east of Jefferson City.
