COLUMBIA, MO. -- Administrators at Columbia’s Truman Veterans Hospital were surprised with a large donation on Friday afternoon.

Representatives of a local non-profit organization called the Veterans United Foundation gave a surprise gift of $20,000 for morale boosting programs.

Organization leaders also gave away some Valentine’s as part of the Veteran Administration’s National Salute to Veteran Patients.

The event encourages everyone to visit a hospitalized veteran during Valentine’s week.

Foundation Coordinator Megan Sievers said, “I think a lot of people recognize the older generation of veterans that come through here, but there are also the younger generation transitioning.  Morale and just being there and letting them know that their community is here to support them is huge and it speaks volumes.”

The Veterans United Foundation also provides individual donations to current and former military members in need.
