University of Missouri student leaders are headed to Jefferson City today to ask lawmakers and the governor to think twice before raising tuition.
The Missouri Students Association said it has collected more than 6,000 letters opposing higher education funding cuts in the next academic year.
Governor Nixon’s budget recommends a 12.5 percent cut for the state's public colleges and universities.
He has since said he wants to use $40 million from Missouri’s share of a nationwide settlement with mortgage lenders for higher education, reducing the proposed cut to just under eight percent.
Student leaders from the Columbia campus plan to testify at a house higher education committee meeting this morning and later meet with House Speaker Steve Tilley and other lawmakers.
