The snowy weather made for a dangerous situation for at least one driver in Columbia on Monday.

The Columbia Fire Department was called to a lake at the intersection of Rollins Road and Eastlake Drive at 8:42 a.m. Monday.

A green Subaru was partially submerged and sinking into the lake. The driver was able to leave the vehicle before the fire department arrived without injury. Firefighters said a tow truck was able to remove the car from the lake in about 30 minutes.

Overall, Columbia Fire responded to seven crashes on Monday.

"Fortunately, most of these accidents today have not resulted in any serious injuries" said Columbia Fire Captain John Metz in a news release.

The Columbia Fire Department says residents need to drive slower when streets are snow covered. They urge those who don't need to travel to stay home and enjoy the snow from their homes.
