COLUMBIA, MO. -- Organizers of a new Mizzou Tiger Football tradition are moving forward with their plans.
Columbia business leaders want to close streets near the University of Missouri and Downtown Columbia to make way for what they call “Tiger Town” during home game weekends.
The giant tailgating party would include live entertainment, pep rallies, family events and a 9-block tiger trail from Downtown Columbia to Faurot Field.
Organizers said a new website will be up and running within the next 2 weeks that will allow volunteers to sign up as ambassadors for the events.
Tiger Town Organizer Greg Steinhoff said, “You’ll probably wear a shirt that says you’re an ambassador, or a coat or something. We’re coming up with that. We hope to make that a statewide thing. We want people from around the state to join up and we’ll have a few hundred tiger fans that represent the University.”
Organizers said “Tiger Town” would be similar to “The Grove” at the University of Mississippi.
The Mizzou Tiger football team joins the SEC this fall.
“Tiger Town” organizers expect 3 times as many SEC fans visiting Columbia on home football weekends as compared to the amount of visitors from the Big 12 in past years.
