CALLAWAY CO. -- The teenager charged with killing his grandmother one week ago in Holts Summit made his first court appearance Friday.

Ryan Koebel, 17, was brought into the courtroom in a wheelchair by Callaway County Deputies.

Prosecutor Chris Wilson charged with teen with first degree murder in the death of his grandmother, Karen Cates, 60.

He's also charged with four counts of armed criminal action and three counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer.

Authorities say he fired at officers when he was walking along Highway 54 on the morning of January 20.

That's when a trooper hit Koebel with this patrol car.
