COLUMBIA -- Dr. Martin Luther King Junior was honored Wednesday night by a University of Missouri alum who helped lead the effort to create the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial.

Ty Christian, a 1977 graduate of MU, served as chief marketing strategist on the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation.

Wednesday night he presented mu with a smaller replica of the memorial at the Missouri Theater.

Under Christian’s marketing leadership, the foundation raised $115 million.

Christian has received numerous awards for his achievements in advertising and public relations and said it was an honor to be at Mizzou.

"I wanted to showcase the fact that dreams do come true,” Christian said. “When I first came here in 1975 and graduated in 77, I was clueless about what I wanted to do. Nobody could have written a script that I would be back here today in my late 50's giving something back to the university."

The ceremony was part of the "MU Celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. 2012" event.

Larry Wilmore, a correspondent on 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart', also served as keynote speaker.
