COLUMBIA, MO. -- Mizzou officials have hired an Atlanta consulting firm to help them with transit issues on their campus.
Members of the Solstice Transportation Group will work with the University of Missouri and the City of Columbia to come up with a transit plan that meets the needs of students.
Funding from the University’s Parking Transportation Services is paying for the $65,000 project.
Consultants are scheduled to arrive in Columbia and begin their work on February 6.
Organizers want to determine how much bus service is necessary for students, who should operate them and where should they go.
MU Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services Jackie Jones said, “We need, at Mizzou, to know what Mizzou’s needs are. We think this is the best based upon what this consultant’s background is, working with other universities. We feel like this is the most effective way for us to move forward.”
Mizzou leaders and Columbia city officials will use information from the consultants to come up with a master plan for a student transit system.
They hope the first phase of their planning is completed by the end of March.
