COLUMBIA, MO. -- Columbia police arrested a Ladonnia man for a home invasion robbery.
James Napoleon Woods, 41, faces charges of kidnapping, first degree robbery and armed criminal action.
Police arrested Woods about 1 p.m. Monday at Stephens Lake Park. Detectives had a description of a vehicle belonging to a suspect during a home invasion on Thursday in West Columbia. Woods’ vehicle with extensive mismatched paint and substantial damage matched that description. Woods’ car was caught on surveillance video at a business on West Broadway and was later found unoccupied in the Stephens Lake parking lot. Officers arrested Woods as he approached his vehicle.
Columbia Police Officer Latisha Stroer said, “Detectives had gathered information from the victim that she had went shopping in a local business on West Broadway prior to the home invasion robbery. Detectives went to that local business and reviewed video surveillance footage and located a vehicle that appeared to be following her from that local business.”
Investigators can only connect Woods to Thursday’s home invasion. During all 3 recent home invasions, a man forced his way inside a home and attacked his victim between the hours of 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.
During their investigation, detectives interviewed Woods’ wife who lives in Columbia. She told them that her husband gave her a necklace as a gift. That necklace became evidence.
Thursday’s home invasion victim told police that the necklace was stolen from her home. All of the recent home invasion victims were female senior citizens.
To protect the victims, investigators are not releasing the locations of the home invasions or the business that recorded the surveillance video.
Woods remains in the Boone County Jail while he waits for his bond to be set.
