COLUMBIA, MO. -- Some needy children in Columbia will soon get their very own computer.

The City of Columbia, the Voluntary Action Center and the Downtown Optimist Club are sponsoring the 9th annual Homes for Computers program.

Columbia city employees donate their old computers, monitors and keyboards to qualifying families.

Applicants must have at least one child attending school and not have a computer in their home.

Families are responsible for providing their own internet service.

Voluntary Action Center Director Nick Foster said, “Even without internet access, the computers will be valuable.  They will be able to use other programs on the computer.  Do homework on the computer and use it for all other kinds of applications.”

The deadline to apply for the Home for Computers program is February 15.

Winning clients will be notified the week of February 20.

Organizers will give away the computers at the Downtown Optimist Club building on Grand Avenue on Saturday, February 25.

Applications are available by calling 573-449-6959.
