BOONE COUNTY COURTHOUSE, MO. -- Update: 6:11 p.m. Monday:
Two of the men involved in the Aaron Hobson murder were sentenced on Monday.
Hobson was shot and killed at a Columbia Break Time during Mizzou’s homecoming weekend last year.
Lee Roland was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Lee Carter will spend 15 years behind bars.
The mother of murder victim Aaron Hobson testified not once, but twice in 2 different courtrooms. Rosa Hunt said Leo Roland and Lee Carter are cowards for their roles in her son’s killing. Roland and Carter are 2 of 8 men charged in the murder of Hobson.
Hunt said, “What’s so sad is that none of these 8 men showed any remorse for what they did. I just don’t want any other family to have to go through what I’ve gone through.”
Leo Roland apologized to Hobson’s family members through his attorney. Lee Carter gave his apology on the stand.
Carter said, “I ask that you forgive me for my actions. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”
Defense attorneys for Carter are disappointed with his 15 year prison sentence. They think the judge should have been more lenient.
Defense attorneys said Carter should have been punished for his evil intent.
Carter’s Attorney Kathryn Benson said, “In this particular case, other people started this situation. Mr. Carter didn’t really realize what was going at the time that he jumped in. He was jumping in to help someone who was a friend that he thought was in a fight.”
6 of 8 co-defendants in the Hobson murder case have pled guilty. The trigger man, Daron Peal, was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
Co-defendant Tony Lewis is the only suspect left in the Hobson case waiting for his trial.
