Have you ever gotten a call where someone is telling you they're a family member, like a grandson, and they need money?

We're alerting you to a scam that some of our Facebook fans have been telling us about.

Scammers will call up, say they're a family member and they're in a foreign country, and they need you to wire them some money.

Captain Doug Shoemaker with the Jefferson City Police Department said, "We've not had any reports as of late of phone fraud from scams, but it is a good time of year to remind people that if you do receive a call from someone claiming to be a relative or somebody who needs help in another country where they're soliciting money from you, it's typically not a good idea for you to send them anything".

Shoemaker said if you do get a call like the one he's referring to, you should call your local police department.
