Arrest made in arson, burglary case

Columbia Police arrested a man on suspicion of arson after a brief standoff at his home.

Police arrested Damon Lamont Poston, Jr. at 8:25 Sundya morning on suspicion of first degree arson, first degree burglary and felony stealing.

According to police, Poston was responsible for the fire at an apartment complex on Apple Tree Court. Police said he broke into his ex-girlfriend's apartment around 4:30 Sunday morning and started a fire in the bedroom of the residence. Police said she was not at home at the time of the fire, but her brother was inside. Poston is accused of taking the ex-girlfriend's vehicle without her permission when he left the apartment.

The fire was set in a four-plex unit. Eleven people were inside when the fire broke out, but no one was injured.
