BOONE COUNTY -- Boone County Deputies were out in force Tuesday night to ensure safety on the roadways.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department conducted a Safety Checkpoint on Starke Avenue at Oakland Gravel Road with help from the Hallsville Police Department.

The departments wanted to increase safety on the roadways of Boone County by identifying and citing drivers who are unlicensed, suspended, revoked and/or uninsured. Officers working the checkpoint also looked for child restraint violations, safety belt violations and any other visible safety violations.

During the checkpoint about 340 vehicles were checked the following actions were taken during the sobriety checkpoint:

 

7 citations for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended or revoked driver's

license

4 citations for operating a motor vehicle without a valid license

29 citations for failing to maintain financial responsibility (no insurance)

7 citations for safety belt violations

3 citations for child restraint violations

4 fugitives were apprehended, including a person with a robbery warrant from Wisconsin and 2 felony warrants for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Use of a Weapon

3 citations for other non hazardous moving violations
