On this day in history, the New York subway system began running under Manhattan.

On this day in history, Oct. 27, 1904, the New York Subway began running.

The New York City subway is the largest american underground rail system. The system transports more than 4 million passengers daily. It's first day, though, 100,000 people paid a nickel to ride for the first time.
