Late night shots fired in residential area

Columbia police responded to a report of shots being fired Wednesday night in North Columbia.

Officers were sent to the area near Quail Drive and Nelwood Drive just before 10 p.m., where they immediately began a close inspection of the area. During which they found 6 shell casings in a grassy area.

Several reports indicated that a group of people were in that same area when someone began shooting from around 150 to 200 feet away.

No one in the group appeared to be injured.

So far there is no information on the identity of the shooter. The investigation is ongoing.
